Last week I ventured out of my comfort zone and tried something new. I wanted to write about it right away, but then I thought I'd better wait a few days and see if I still felt the same way.
I went to my very first hot yoga class. And truthfully, you could probably call it my very first "real" yoga experience. (I don't believe that my at home attempts, nor the Yoga For Beginners that I took through the community college 100 years ago really count as preparing me for this.)
I've always wanted to love yoga. Really. And I tried it in the past - and didn't love it. To me it just felt slow, and painful. But I wanted to LOVE it. All sorts of people just LOVE yoga. So I've just always felt like I was missing part of the puzzle because I could NOT see what they were seeing in it.
Well, my sister has been going to a local hot yoga studio for a while, and offered to take me to a class. The room was about 100 degrees, smelled of peppermint and was dimly lit. And for the next 75 minutes I learned just what people who love yoga are talking about.
When we finished I was drenched in sweat, yet felt completely relaxed and energized. I know that it was a workout, and I felt it for days afterwards. I love trying new things, and this was a great reminder of why. I'm already looking forward to going back!!
You can live a healthy lifestyle in the real world without giving up everything that makes you happy.
